The Sheriff’s Department would like to remind the citizens to be very cautious of who they release their personal information to. The Department has received several calls this week from senior citizens who have received calls “fishing” for information. The calls have ranged from persons claiming to be with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to banking establishments. Thankfully, none of the complainants have become victims and were educated enough to not give out their information. Sheriff Dennis Lee stated, “I believe the old saying ‘knowledge is power’ to ring very true. I want the citizens to be aware of what is going on in their county and keep them informed to prevent them from becoming victims to crimes such as these.” Sheriff Lee also noted that the majority of these incidents originate overseas (Nigeria) and in Canada. Several recent cases have reached a “dead-end” due to the suspect(s) being located out of the country.

Investigators with the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office and the Bay County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at the residence of John Nathan File located on Sunnyside Lane and recovered four handguns taken during the armed burglary.
