Reserve Deputy Joe Galloway End of Watch: August 20, 2007 Cause of Death: Traffic Crash
On August 20, 2007 Reserve Deputy Joe Bill Galloway was killed in an automobile accident while attempting to catch up to a speeding motorist. This occurred while he was patrolling the New Hope Community at approximately 1910 hrs. During the response, his patrol car went out of control on Yancey Road just north of the Alabama State Line. he was thrown from the patrol car and died at the scene. Reserve Deputy Galloway had been an active member of the auxiliary for approximately one year. He was an active member of the New Hope Community and Holmes County. He had returned home after serving 23 years in the U.S. Army Airborne Division, including a tour in vietnam. Prior to volunteering his time with the Auxiliary, he founded the New Hope Crime Watch and served a term as president over the program. He was also a deacon at the New Hope Baptist Church, Gideon, active member of the New Hope Masonic Lodge and original member of the Holmes County Crimestoppers.

Deputy Sheriff Lonny Lee Lindsey End of Watch: September 17, 1996 Cause of Death: Gunfire Lonny Lindsey, who had been with the Sheriff's Office for six years, is the first officer ever to be killed in the line of duty in Holmes County. Lindsey worked for the Sheriff's Office as a dispatcher and a corrections officer before becoming a patrol deputy. He had been a patrol deputy for three years. Lindsey was shot and killed by two suspects who had just robbed a liquor store near his home. Lindsey had called in sick that night, but having heard news of the robbery on his police scanner, he responded to the call in order to assist his fellow deputies.
