HOLMES COUNTY CRIME STOPPERS
Crime Stoppers of Holmes County encourages members of the community to assist local law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime by overcoming the two key elements that inhibit community involvement: fear and apathy.
Crime Stoppers of Holmes County provides an anonymous tipline and in some cases Web Tips to encourage citizens in the community to volunteer vital information helpful to law enforcement agencies to fight against crime.
Crime Stoppers relies on volunteer Directors and tax deductible contributions from the public in order to operate the administration of the program.
On October 18, 2007 the Crimestoppers Board met and outlined goals and objectives for the coming year. At the meeting, Larry White was appointed as board president of Crimestoppers of Holmes County. Mr. White is recently retired from the Bay County Sheriff's Department and has moved back to Holmes County. Past president O.J. "Buddy" Oliver will remain as an active board member. The Crimestoppers Board plans to have more participation in the Holmes County School System and other venues. Students who step forward with anonymous tips leading to arrests may be eligible for cash awards through their local Student/Campus Crime Stoppers program, based on an internally recognized model. School and law enforcement officials agree that most students want to do the right thing to keep their schools and neighborhoods safe, but sometimes fear reprisals. The Student/Campus Crime Stopper program offers the safety of complete anonymity while promoting responsibility and allowing students to take action against victimization and crime. The Crimestoppers Board will be pitching the idea to School Board officials and is also looking at programs in the Holmes County Jail and Holmes Correctional Institution. Several other Crimestoppers programs have found success in a deck of playing cards with cold case and missing person information that is distributed to inmates. The Crimestoppers Board for Holmes County is interested in participating in this new idea.
