Holmes County EMS Transitions Under the Direction of Sheriff John Tate
On April 1, Holmes County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) will officially transition under the direction of Sheriff John Tate and the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office following a unanimous vote by the Board of County Commissioners at the last board meeting.
While a few changes will take place, no disruptions to ongoing services are expected.
The most significant adjustment is that Sheriff Tate will now oversee the financial management of the EMS department and work with the employees to advance the EMS division.
In just a few weeks, by thoroughly reviewing financial records and making strategic decisions, we have already achieved substantial savings — including over $20,000 on a new ambulance and approximately $35,000 in reduced expenses.
These savings will directly benefit Holmes County residents by converting the New Hope Station into a 24-hour transport truck, ensuring round-the-clock coverage at all three stations in the county.
This expansion will significantly enhance response times and overall emergency medical care.
“This transition wouldn’t have been possible without the support and commitment of our EMS employees,” said Sheriff John Tate. “They are the backbone of this department, and their dedication to serving the community is what makes it run efficiently.
I’ve had the opportunity to meet with most of them, and I’m encouraged by their willingness to embrace these changes and their excitement for the future.”
Sheriff Tate also expressed his gratitude to the Board of County Commissioners for their confidence in his leadership:
“I want to sincerely thank the Board of County Commissioners for asking me to take on this endeavor and believing in my ability to make a difference. While there’s no personal benefit for me as Sheriff in overseeing EMS, I firmly believe this is a step in the right direction for the community and the employees.
It’s all about providing the citizens of Holmes County and the EMS employees with the top-notch service they deserve, while also ensuring we’re using taxpayer dollars responsibly.”
